Movie Review - P.S I LOVE YOU

Synopsis:

Two-time Oscar winner Hillary Swank tries her hand at romantic comedy in this touching film based on the bestselling Irish novel. Holly Kennedy (Swank) and her charming Irish husband Gerry (Gerard Butler) are a young couple struggling to get by in New York City. Their marriage is 10 years strong, and they are madly in love, but the fates soon step in, when Gerry develops cancer and dies. Holly is completely devastated, and her friends Denise (Lisa Kudrow) and Sharon (Gina Gershon) do their best to console her.

Her mother (Kathy Bates) and sister, Rose (Nellie Mckay), also offer their support, but it seems nothing can pull Holly out of her grief. Then one day, she begins to receive love letters Gerry penned before his death. The letters are filled with various stories and instructions, and one of them even contains a plan that sends her and her friends on a trip to Ireland. As Gerry's posthumous letters buoy her up, Holly slowly begins to piece her life back together. His letters help her to celebrate their special love story, and remind her that she must continue to live her life, and seek out happiness.

The film's stellar cast delivers many tearjerker moments, and P.S. I LOVE YOU does a fine job of yanking on the heartstrings. However, the tone often shifts so abruptly, it at times feels as though they couldn't quite decide if Holly was a steel magnolia, a Bridget with a diary, or a devil in search of some Prada. But the strong performances manage to hold the tale together, and the story is ultimately moving, and yes, romantic.

Jemcritic: This show is once again a certainty must-watch of the year again. Why do i say that? Well firstly the producers of "The Devil wears Prada" produced this wonderful tear-jerking romantic love movie. (I am a big fan of them) Just recently, we watched 27dresses and it was an awesome movie too...for you guys out there to bring your date/GF/Wife to. In the whole movie yesterday when we were watching, i could hear sobs everywhere...beside, behind, infront....cant be 50 people were having flu at the same time right? kalaweng... aniway its definately worth the money lar...i am a sucker for romantic films with a nice plot and ending :)

A Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Happy CNY my dear friends :) really had a prospeous year this year of the Rat man...collected quite a handful of angbaos which amounted to $XXX :) Twice to what i collected the previous year!

But God's blessings didnt just stop there :

1) I got a $300 blessing from my dad because he won 4D first prize.

2) My deferrment is sucessful after haggling and trying for like almost a month. (Finally the mindef people come to their senses)

3) Won 2 tickets to a new movie Juno because of the photo contest from Mediacorp :)

4) Votes so far, my pics are the highest in the funky group. :)

A verse close to my heart

Wanted to share this verse during cellgroup last week as Pat was worshipping the Lord, felt the spirit leading to share Is40...

Isaiah 40:28 - 31 "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

In my 9 years of walk being a christian, so many times have i been tired, weary and in need of a breakthrough. But what never fails me in this verse is that the Lord's encouragement to me. He is Soveriegn...His understanding we cannot apprehend most of the times. I have made so many mistakes in my life, but i have seen His grace and mercy upon me in my life. I have seen so many of my good friends in church leaving because of circumstances/situations happening in their lives. I pray that we can be like eagles that even as we run, we wont grow weary, as we walk, we will not faint. Guard your hearts and guard your Salvation Today...

Movies Review - 27 Dresses

27 Dresses Plot :

A single woman who has served as a bridesmaid a shocking 27 times wrestles with the prospect of supporting her sister at the altar on number 28, despite having fallen helplessly in love with her smitten sibling's handsome husband-to-be. Jane (Katherine Heigl) has the kind of altruistic traits that everyone looks for in a friend, yet lately the perennial bridesmaid has begun to feel as if something is missing in her life. One night, local newspaper reporter Kevin (James Marsden) spots the devoted bridal attendant racing between receptions in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and quickly surmises that her quirky tale may be just the story to get him off the bridal beat and into the big time. Immediately suspicious of the cynical reporter's motivations, Jane butts heads with Kevin just as her younger sister Tess (Malin Akerman) shows up in town. Jemcritic: Just went with huizi to watch this show, initially thought its going to be some lame romantic show for ladies because of the way the show's titled. I mean 27 dresses? why not 28? or 30(round it up la)...Kin Sung gave a thumbs up for it, but then still i had in mind that maybe he was forced to give a thumbs up under circumstances infront of Lijuan. If you know what i meant. Haha.

Well after watching the movie i really changed my mind about it. The plot was really good except for some lack of character development in some scenes. But overall is really good and i believe this one is a must watch whether you are a guy/girl. This is definately in contention for Oscar and whatever movie recognition that can be given to the producers for this show. I can only imagine because they were the ones who came up with The Devil Wears Prada which is also an awesome show.
